Zippity-Split is designed with privacy as a core principle. Your receipt data stays on your device. We do not operate cloud servers that store your bills, and we do not track your usage.
When you scan a receipt, the image is processed to extract line items and prices. The image is used solely for parsing and is discarded immediately after processing. Receipt images are never uploaded to our servers — because we don't have any.
Zippity-Split requests camera permission for one purpose only: scanning receipts. The camera is never used for any other purpose. No photos or video are stored or transmitted beyond the immediate parsing step.
Guest names (randomly generated as "{adjective} {animal}" pairs) are created and stored locally on each guest's device in their browser's localStorage. Guest names are never transmitted to any external server. The host device holds guest identifiers only for the duration of the active bill session.
Zippity-Split uses two third-party services during normal operation:
No data is shared with advertisers, analytics providers, or any other third party.
All bill data (items, prices, participant claims, totals) is stored exclusively on the host device for the duration of the session. When the bill session ends or the app is closed, this data is deleted. There is no cloud backup, no sync to external servers, and no persistent storage of bill data beyond the active session.
Sending feedback is entirely optional. If you choose to send feedback or report a problem, that specific submission — the message you write, basic technical context (such as app version, device model, platform, and how the most recent receipt was parsed), and any receipt image you explicitly choose to attach — is sent to and stored on our backend (Cloudflare) so we can diagnose and fix issues. This is the one case where information leaves your device and is retained on a server. Feedback submissions are kept for up to 90 days and then automatically deleted. They are used only to improve the app and are never sold or shared with advertisers.
When used in offline hotspot mode, all data remains entirely on the local network created by your device. No internet connection is used and no data leaves the local hotspot. Receipt parsing in offline mode uses on-device processing only.
Hotspot mode is available on supported Android devices only.
Zippity-Split does not include any analytics SDKs, tracking pixels, or usage telemetry. We do not know how often you use the app, which features you use, or what receipts you scan.
Zippity-Split does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app does not require accounts or personal information of any kind.
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
